The protection level of the busbar enclosure is an important indicator to prevent people or animals from directly touching live equipment, and to prevent foreign objects and water from entering the busbar enclosure and affecting equipment safety. The majority of electrical accidents caused by bus ducts are due to the installation of connectors and inadequate protection levels. The protection level of busbar trunking not only refers to the protection level of the busbar body, but also includes the protection level of the installation connection head.At present, many bus ducts on the market are labeled with protection levels of IP54,IP65,and IP66.The protection level of the bus body can meet their requirements, but the protection level of the connector can only reach IP30 or IP40.
Therefore, the design and processing of the connector is a crucial factor. If the connector seal is not good,no matter how high the protection level of the busbar is,it cannot truly and effectively protect the safe operation of the busbar trough. So,when users choose bus ducts, they must require the manufacturer to provide samples, which must be a body with a plug-in interface and two sections of bus ducts with connected connectors.By examining the protective performance of the busbar body, plug interface, and connector head,it can be determined whether the protection level of the busbar trunking meets the design requirements.A single busbar sample or a busbar sample with an additional connector cannot determine whether the sealing degree of the connector meets the protection level requirements. When selecting a busbar slot, the importance of the protection level of the connector should be taken seriously by users.
Many projects did not specify the enclosure protection level of the bus duct during engineering design, and the client did not provide specific requirements, resulting in many projects choosing IP30 or IP40 bus ducts due to excessive consideration of project cost.During use,due to the accumulation of dust over time,as well as condensation on the surface caused by humid weather and changes in day night temperature differences,or electrical short circuits caused by equipment water ingress, such accidents occur particularly frequently in coastal areas. To ensure the safe operation of bus ducts,it is important to choose the appropriate protection level according to the requirements of the usage environment when selecting bus ducts. In the distribution room, the protective measures are good, and the protection level from the transformer to the distribution cabinet can be IP40.
The outgoing busbar trunking of the distribution cabinet should be IP54;Bus ducts installed in basements or horizontally, due to the presence of fire sprinklers and vehicle access, have a humid environment with a high amount of dust particles. In addition, with the use of fire water or regular fire tests, there are more opportunities for the bus ducts to become damp or flooded, which seriously affects the safe operation and service life of the bus ducts. Therefore,it is recommended to use bus ducts with a protection level of≥IP65 for horizontal installation;IP65 should be selected for outdoor use;IP66 should be selected for areas with seawater near the pool or dock;IP68 should be selected for buried installation or installation in cable trenches; The bus duct installed in the vertical shaft has good protection performance due to the closed state of the electrical shaft.A bus duct with a protection level of≥IP40 can meet the requirements.
